How do I open a savings account at my bank?
Step by step, from choosing an offer to the first transfer.
A savings account helps you separate money for “later” from money for everyday spending. Here is a simple plan.
Set a goal and an amount
Decide why and how much you want to save. A goal in Money Tracker will help you work out how many months it takes to reach the amount.
Find the offer at your bank
Log in to your bank’s app or website and search for “savings account” or “savings”. Menu names differ between banks.
Compare the terms
Check the interest rate (fixed or promotional), deposit limits, bonus conditions and fees.
Open the account
Choose an account and confirm the opening. It usually takes a few minutes and does not require a branch visit.
Set up an automatic transfer
Set up a standing order on payday so saving works on its own. In Money Tracker add a recurring goal deposit with the same amount and target account.
If you cannot find the option, ask an agent via chat or the helpline.
