The 50/30/20 rule in practice
A simple split of your pay into needs, wants and savings โ with a numerical example.
The 50/30/20 rule is a simple starting point for planning a budget. It will not fit everyone, but it helps you begin.
Three baskets
50% of income for needs (housing, food, bills, commuting), 30% for wants (entertainment, outings, hobbies), 20% for savings and debt repayment.
How to apply it
With PLN 5000 take-home pay it works out to PLN 2500 for needs, PLN 1500 for wants and PLN 1000 for savings. Start by writing down how much you actually spend in each basket.
When to change it
With high housing costs the first basket may reach 60%. Then reduce wants, but try not to let savings fall below a safe level.
How Money Tracker helps
Set category budgets, check your average spending from recent months and create savings goals with recurring deposits.
This is a general rule, not individual financial advice.
